NHS Patients

We currently scan a large number of NHS patients on behalf of Mid Essex, Southeast Essex and Southwest Essex CCG’s (Clinical Commissioning Groups). In these areas GP’s and patients can choose to be refered to Essex Ultrasound, local hospitals or other qualified providers.

If you have been referred to us for an ultrasound scan you will receive an appointment by telephone or letter which will include the following information:

  • Details of where to go for your appointment and how to get there.
  • Details of any preparation required for the scan.
  • Our contact details should you have any questions.

The service you can expect.

We will notify you of your appointment (as above). The waiting time for a non-urgent appointment is approximately 1 – 2 weeks but you will be seen sooner if your doctor requests.

Urgent referals will be offered appointments in 3 – 5 days at any of our community clinics convienient to the patient.

If your appointment is at an inconvenient time you can telephone our main line on 01268 947 000 and we will re-arrange your appointment to suit your availability. This may not mean that you will be seen any sooner and in most cases an alternative appointment will be offered .Your ultrasound scan will be performed by a Senior Ultrasound Practitioner who will be happy to explain the procedure to you. After your appointment the Sonographer will prepare a report which is then sent to your GP. You are advised to contact your GP to discuss the results usually within 7-10 days. We provide your doctor with a report within 24 hrs.

If you wish to cancel your appointment please telephone and let us know as soon as possible so your appointment can be given to someone else. If you fail to attend your appointment without telling us we are obliged to inform your doctor and you may not be offered another one.
